Katie Kessler

Associate Principal Scientist, Drug Safety, Merck

Katie is a doctorally prepared nurse practitioner and senior drug safety scientist with expertise in neuro-critical care, clinical leadership, and pharmaceutical safety. She earned her BSN and MSN from the University of Pennsylvania and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Villanova University. After 10 years working clinically as a nurse, nurse practitioner, and nurse leader in trauma and neurosurgery intensive care units, she transitioned from the bedside to the pharmaceutical industry. She now focuses on driving quality and safety initiatives and translating complex safety data into actionable insights for cross-functional partners.

Katie is also the mom of three young children, including one with a rare genetic neurodevelopmental disorder, Williams Syndrome. Her family’s experience has given her a deep understanding of the importance of access to therapies, services, and inclusive opportunities for children with developmental disabilities.

The Brave Little Bears Foundation is especially meaningful to Katie because it helps address a critical gap—ensuring that children who need support the most have access to the resources and opportunities that allow them to thrive and be part of their communities.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Brave Little Bears Foundation is dedicated to providing financial assistance and support to families with children who have developmental disabilities, enabling them to access private therapies, specialized activities, and mainstream recreational programs that are otherwise out of reach. Our goal is to alleviate the unique burdens these families face, ensuring they have the resources to support their children’s happiness, development, and well-being.
