Katie Maahs
Librarian, Lower Merion School District
Katie Maahs is a middle school librarian, educator, researcher, and storyteller who believes that learning should be a joyful, human experience. She began her career as a secondary English teacher and later served as a K–12 instructional coach and curriculum leader. Now, as a school librarian, she brings that breadth of experience into the heart of the library. Across all her roles, Katie has drawn on both story and research to build inclusive, learner-centered spaces where students and educators alike feel seen, supported, and inspired to grow.
She is especially passionate about cultivating environments that reflect the full spectrum of how people think, create, and connect. Grounded in the belief that there is no single way to learn, Katie views variability as an asset- and an invitation to design experiences that affirm all learners and elevate all voices and stories. In her current role, she collaborates closely with students and colleagues, positioning the library as a vibrant hub of curiosity, creativity, and community. With shared values, clear and neuro-affirming norms, and a mission rooted in joy and belonging, she shapes the library into a space where students feel a deep sense of belonging and possibility.
Whether reimagining the library, shaping responsive curriculum, or guiding inclusive programming, Katie leads with care, clarity, and deep respect for lived experience. Her professional work is deeply shaped by both personal and collective stories, and grounded in a joy-filled commitment to honoring every kind of brilliance. Designing spaces where that brilliance shines a bit brighter is not only her work, but her privilege.
